deal united is showcasing the concept to interested gamers and publishers at GamesCom from August 18 to 22 in Cologne (Hall 4.2, booth A-013). Interviews are also possible throughout the event on prior arrangement.

In our first article about generating revenue in online games, we focused on Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games (MMORPGs) and how publishers can increase revenue and customer satisfaction for their games. We also talked about how MMORPGs exist in two variations: for a monthly fee and free to play. It’s all pretty self-explanatory — with one, you subscribe and pay every month so that you have access to the game, the other one is, well, free to play.

There are some quite well-known MMORPGs out there, like Runes of Magic (Frogster), Atlantica (Ndoors) and Runescapes (Jagex). These games host thousands of players at any given minute, which can get a bit pricey for game providers. Besides, game developers and all those cool IT dudes who keep everything running have to make a living, too. So how do free MMORPGs stay in business?

Most free-to-play MMORPGs have “item shops” where players can buy virtual items to help them advance their game. Certain items might help them pass levels faster, maximize their equipment or get special features. Though players have the choice of whether or not to buy these things — the game functions just fine without them — game providers depend on revenue from their shops to offset the cost of hosting and developing their games. It’s just not feasible to run a game without paying players.

That’s where deal united comes in. With us and our rewards payment platform, game publishers have access to several marketing solutions to increase their revenue:

Example for a payment implementation

Example for a payment implementation

Virtual Currency for Free

deal united allows you to offer your virtual currency for free, but still get paid for it. Present banners to your users with messages like, “Get 150 diamonds for free with deal united.” To get the currency, players go shopping and make a purchase online with one of deal united’s advertising partners. A portion of the sale proceeds pays for the virtual currency.

Special Features and Game Items for Free

Most games offer special features that make the game either more successful or more entertaining for the user. Such features are appealing to a lot of players, but many are reluctant to spend “real” money on them. With deal united, game publishers can offer features for free. With messages like “Get the flying horse for free” or “Get ten speed potions for free,” you can catch non-buying players’ attention. Instead of spending money on the special features, they can buy things they buy anyway, like clothes, books or CDs.

Whether you’re offering free virtual currency or special features, there are plenty of creative and eye-catching ways to inform players about the deals. Banners, in-game messages, pop-unders, emails, payment area messages and more tell users about bonuses.

Biggest Benefits of deal united’s Marketing Solution:

• Increase revenue by converting registered users into paying customers
• Increase player satisfaction and loyalty by offering bonuses
• Reactivate former players through email campaigns
• No cost for game publishers — neither integration nor the deals themselves
